Threshold strips: Various options for floor transitions

Transition strips or transition rails can be found in almost every building and are an important component when laying floor coverings. They ensure a clean finish between different floor coverings. At the same time, they also serve as protection against wear and tear and tripping hazards. The variety of designs means that transition strips are optimally adapted to the respective room concept and floor covering.

Functions of threshold strips:

  1. Connection between two different floor coverings. They ensure a smooth and trip-free transition.
  2. With door strips for the floor you can separate your rooms in a visually appealing way to emphasize the room layout.
  3. Transition strips protect the edges of the floor coverings from damage and thus increase the longevity of the floor.
  4. Compared to silicone joints, Transition rails are a permanent solution. Silicone joints, on the other hand, have to be renewed over time.
  5. Last but not least, transition strips increase the beautiful look at the transitions between floors. This harmoniously enhances the overall appearance of the room.

Suitable soil types for threshold strips

Transition profiles are suitable for almost any floor covering. Depending on their shape, more specific profiles are better suited to certain floor coverings than others. With us you will surely find the right ones for the following floor coverings transition strips:

  1. laminate
  2. parquet
  3. tiles
  4. vinyl
  5. Carpet

There are also profiles for the above-mentioned coverings that also compensate for height differences. You can find these in the category height compensation profiles.

How do you install door threshold strips?

The installation depends on the model. For example, there are products that consist of several components. Here, so-called base profiles are first screwed into the floor and then, after the floor has been laid, the top profile is either clipped in or screwed in. These include our threshold strip "Multi" and the transition profile CLIP.

Special T-profiles such as the T-shaped transition profile made of aluminum are simply pressed into the gap between the coverings, which has previously been filled with silicone. This means that they can be easily attached even after the covering has been laid.

Profiles such as the aluminium cover profile are available either with a self-adhesive strip or can simply be screwed into the desired location later.

The materials of tile door threshold strips

The most common materials are aluminum, stainless steel or plastic. These materials have certain advantages depending on their type. To help you decide which material is best for you, you will find some properties of the different materials below.

Aluminum door threshold strips:

Most of these profiles are made of aluminum. Due to certain surface treatments such as anodizing, they are extremely corrosion-resistant. In addition, they combine a relatively low price compared to stainless steel with high robustness. Aluminum profiles are available in various colors and surfaces. You are guaranteed to find a profile that suits you. Due to their low weight, they are also particularly easy to install and offer a long service life, even in areas with higher traffic.

Stainless steel threshold strips:

Stainless steel is the most robust option. Due to the material, they can withstand high loads. Stainless steel is also the least susceptible to corrosion. This means that they can also be used outdoors if necessary. Despite intensive use, they retain their visual elegance and are particularly easy to care for. Such profiles can simply be wiped down with non-aggressive cleaning agents.

Plastic threshold strips:

These are the cheapest option. They are usually provided with self-adhesive strips. However, you have to make compromises when it comes to durability with such strips. High stress on the profiles quickly leads to wear and tear, which means that they have to be replaced with new profiles.

Since the longevity of our products is particularly important to us, we use transition profiles made of aluminum and stainless steel.

Where are threshold strips used?

The vast majority of transition profiles are used indoors. This includes all rooms such as the living room, kitchen, bathroom and hallway.

In addition to private households ,transition rails are also used in public buildings such as offices. Restaurants, hotels or shops are also potential areas of application.

Our stainless steel cover profile can also be used outdoors. Due to the robust material, this profile is often used in front of garage entrances. In industrial halls or warehouses, they protect floors and edges from heavy wear and tear caused by machines or heavy loads.
