What is a skirting board?

Skirting boards are strips that are installed as a connection between the floor and the wall. Unsightly transitions and gaps are simply covered by them. They are an essential part of living spaces and enhance them visually. In addition, skirting boards have other practical functions from which you benefit.

Functions of a skirt board

  1. Expansion joints between wall and floor, which are necessary for laminate or parquet flooring, are elegantly concealed.
  2. The visual demarcation with skirting boards ensures a structured room division.
  3. Skirting boards create a harmonious transition between floor and wall.
  4. With skirting boards and their different colors you can set optical highlights.
  5. Walls are protected from impacts e.g. by a vacuum cleaner
  6. For certain skirting boards cables can be laid behind them, making them invisible.

Installation of a skirting board

There are different ways to install skirting boards with different advantages:

  1. Gluing: With special assembly adhesive the strips can be quickly and easily attached to smooth and clean walls.
  2. Clip systems: These have wall brackets attached in advance. The skirting boards can then simply be clipped into them. Due to the flexible assembly and disassembly, these systems are very versatile.
  3. Screwing or nailing: The installation is a little more complicated here, as screws in particular have to be pre-drilled. However, this method offers a firm connection to the wall. It is also possible with slightly uneven walls.

Our skirting boards are intended exclusively for gluing.

Accessories for skirting boards

With our matching accessories for the skirting board ssuch as end caps, connectors and especially inside and outside corners, the installation is even easier. The corner fittings allow you to easily and cleanly skirting boards around the corner. End caps ensure a clean finish to the strips and connectors cover the joint edges when two skirting boards are laid next to each other.

The different materials of skirting boards

Skirting boards are available in several different materials, which means that you can buy them in different designs and shapes. These materials include plastic, aluminum, wood or MDF. Depending on the material, these have certain advantages. We will explain to you here which material is best suited to your needs.

Aluminum skirting boards:

This type is one of the most robust variants. Through various surface treatments, such strips are available in several colors or with a cut pattern. They offer a modern design. In addition, such strips are insensitive to moisture and particularly easy to care for. Since such skirting boards are often simply glued, the installation is quite easy.

Wooden skirt boards:

These are the classics that go particularly well with rustic interior design styles. The sheer number of potential types of wood alone means there is a wide range of choice. Available in many colors, you can always find a product that suits your needs. Such strips can also be repainted if necessary. However, they are also more sensitive to moisture and can be damaged more easily than aluminum skirting boards., for example.

MDF skirting boards:

MDF skirting boards are a cost-effective alternative to wood. They have a uniform surface and are very easy to work with. They can be easily painted or covered with foil, for example. Ideal for customizing. Unfortunately, however, they are more susceptible to possible damage. Areas that may have high levels of moisture are less suitable for use with such strips.

Plastic skirting boards:

They are available in many colors and designs and are also extremely easy to care for. The price is also often very reasonable. On the downside, it should be said that such skirting boards are the least resistant option to impacts. However, compared to wood, they are particularly resistant to moisture.

With us you will find aluminum skirting boards. The robustness of these ensures that you get a long-lasting solution. The durability of our products is at the forefront.

Where can you use our aluminium skirting boards?

Mostly skirting boards are used indoors. Here they are used in all living spaces such as:

  1. Living room
  2. Kitchen
  3. bathroom
  4. bedroom
  5. Hallway

You can also find them in public or commercial buildings such as offices, restaurants, hotels or sales rooms.

Since our skirting boards are exclusively made of aluminum, they can even be used outdoors. The aluminum is either powder-coated or anodized, which makes the strips weather- and corrosion-resistant.

With our wide range of skirting boards and the right accessories, you are sure to find the best solution for your requirements.

FAQs

Fragen und Antworten

As a rule of thumb, one cartridge of assembly adhesive is sufficient for approx. 20 metres of skirting boards.

Our mounting adhesive is the most suitable. Bonding with acrylic or silicone is also possible. However, the adhesive strength is less strong here.

Classic skirting boards made from wood, for example, can be cut to fit corners using a mitre box. You will find suitable accessories for our skirting boards, eliminating the often time-consuming mitre cut.
