Efficient water drainage with our drainage mats
Drainage mats are special sheets for outdoor use that improve the drainage of areas.
Draining mats are usually made of plastic. They have a dimpled structure or channels that ensure the drainage of water. The final layer of the mats is usually fleece or a mesh fabric. The rest of the covering construction is then attached to this.
Most often you will find drainage mats on terraces, balconies or even sidewalks.
Advantages and functions of draining mats
- The main function of drainage mats is the effective drainage of water.
- Drainage mats protect your terrace and balcony coverings from frost damage, as they prevent water from accumulating under the covering.
- By preventing frost damage, the lifespan of the terrace or balcony slabs is extended.
- They also ensure an even load distribution on the floor covering
- Drainage mats are also versatile and are suitable not only for terraces and balconies, but also for garden paths, flat roofs and paved areas
Laying draining mats
Installation is quite simple. The following steps must be carried out one after the other:
- Preparing the surface: A gradient of approximately 2% must be incorporated. Leveling measures must be carried out before laying the mats.
- Cutting and laying the strips: With a cutter, the drainage mats can be cut to size. The mats are then laid loosely with the fleece or mesh facing upwards. The strips can also be laid either end-to-end or overlapping.
- Bonding and sealing: If the panels are laid butt-to-butt, they are covered with sealing tape. The same applies to wall connections and corners.
Now you can start with the further construction of the flooring.
Drainage membranes and various paving constructions
Possible paving designs include laying the slabs on pedestals, drainage screed, direct laying or laying slabs on a gravel bed.
Our DR100++ drainage membrane due to its dimensional stability, is particularly suitable for loose direct installation of the panels or for use in conjunction with pedestals. Please note that in these cases the panels must have a minimum thickness of 2 cm. The drainage mat PLUS is better suited for combination with drainage screed or a gravel bed.
