Neutral cure silicones – material-friendly and versatile

Neutral-curing silicone, also referred to as neutral silicone, cures without releasing acetic acid. This makes it particularly material-friendly and suitable for a wide range of demanding applications in sanitary areas, interior spaces and exterior applications. Compared to acetoxy-curing silicones, neutral-curing silicone is low-odour and can also be used on sensitive substrates.

In our shop you will find the exterior caulk, the low-odour silicone S80 and the floor & sanitary silicone S125. All three products are neutral-curing silicones.

Properties of neutral cure silicone

Neutral-curing silicone remains permanently elastic, is waterproof and offers good adhesion to a wide range of building materials. Thanks to the neutral curing system, the risk of discolouration or material reactions is significantly reduced.

Suitable for sensitive substrates

Neutral silicone is particularly suitable for sensitive materials such as natural stone, concrete or certain metals. It helps prevent edge zone contamination and ensures a clean, even joint appearance. For this reason, it is often used on high-quality surfaces and visible joints.

Low odour during curing

As no acetic acid is released during curing, neutral-curing silicone is significantly lower in odour than acetoxy-curing variants. This is a noticeable advantage, especially for applications in interior spaces or occupied rooms.

Typical applications for neutral silicone

The range of applications is very broad. Typical uses include sanitary joints in bathrooms, joints on natural stone surfaces as well as connection joints in interior and exterior areas. Neutral silicone is also commonly used for façade joints or window connections when sensitive materials are involved.

Neutral-curing or acetoxy-curing silicone – how to choose?

Whether neutral-curing or acetoxy-curing silicone should be used mainly depends on the substrate. For sensitive materials and natural stone, neutral-curing silicone is the safe choice. For non-sensitive, smooth substrates, acetoxy-curing silicone can also be used. Choosing the right type ensures durable and visually clean joints.

You can find additional silicone sealants and acrylic products in the category silicone caulk.
