DURAL sealing membrane ET-S

Tile coverings alone do not offer complete protection against water. Water can penetrate and damage the substructure at points where built-in components meet tiles, at wall connections and in areas with joints and cracks. In order to offer a solution for the diverse requirements of different areas of application, the DIN 18534-5 standard has defined four stress classes, ranging from WO-1 for low stress to W3-1 for very high stress.
Although classification by stress class helps to standardise requirements, in practice it often leads to confusion about which specification should be applied in certain situations. This is particularly the case in rooms where different areas with different requirements meet.
To meet this challenge, DURAL has developed the DURABASE ET-S sealing system, which meets the requirements of all water exposure classes in accordance with DIN 18534-5. With DURABASE ET-S, every requirement can be covered with just one product, making the system a universal solution for the entire spectrum of sealing - be it in private bathrooms, public shower facilities or commercial kitchens.
The system offers special components for different installation situations, which enable quick and standard-compliant installation:
• Sealing membrane: Suitable for floor and wall areas, even under difficult conditions.
• Sealing tapes: For connecting sealing sheets and for secure sealing at wall connections.
• Sealing sleeves: For use on wall outlets, available in various sizes.
• Moulded parts: For precise sealing of external and internal corners as well as specific parts for shower and bathtub corners.
• Installation accessories: Includes soundproofing strips, cut protection tape and adhesive sealant for a comprehensive sealing solution.
By providing these diverse components, DURABASE ET-S enables efficient and reliable sealing that meets a wide range of requirements.

Other sealing materials
In addition to the specific products from our shop, there are a variety of other sealing materials and techniques that are used in the bathroom area:
liquid foil
Liquid film is an innovative waterproofing material widely used in the construction industry, especially in the waterproofing of wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens and terraces. It is a polymer-based liquid that is applied with a brush, roller or spatula and, when exposed to air, creates a seamless, elastic and waterproof seal under tiled surfaces and in areas subject to regular water exposure.
Before applying liquid film, the surface must be clean, dry and free of loose particles or dust. A primer may be required to improve adhesion. After applying the liquid film, it should be given sufficient time to dry and harden before laying tiles or other surface coverings.
sealing slurry
Sealing slurry is a key building material in the construction industry, especially when it comes to sealing and waterproofing buildings and structures. It is a cement-based mixture enriched with special additives to create a waterproof but breathable barrier. Modern sealing slurries contain polymer additives that make them more flexible and crack-resistant, so they can better accommodate movements in the subsoil.
Before applying sealing slurries, the substrate must be prepared. This includes cleaning of dust, dirt and loose particles and repairing cracks and imperfections. In some cases, a primer may be necessary to improve adhesion. After application, sealing slurries must be allowed to dry sufficiently before applying further coats or laying tiles. The exact drying time may vary depending on the product and environmental conditions.
