How to apply OTTOSEAL® S 80 correctly

OTTOSEAL® S 80 is a high-quality, natural stone–compatible silicone sealant for demanding joints in interior and exterior areas. It is ideal for marble, granite, sandstone and many other types of natural stone.

Joint preparation:

1. Clean the substrate thoroughly: Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, dust-free, grease-free and free of release agents.
2. Remove old sealants completely to ensure reliable adhesion.
3. Pay attention to natural stone: On sensitive or highly absorbent surfaces, masking the joint edges is recommended to prevent contamination.
4. Use primer if required: Depending on the substrate and level of exposure, apply a suitable primer according to the adhesion table. For natural stone exposed to moisture, OTTO Primer 1216 is recommended.
5. Insert backing material: Use suitable backing material (e.g. PE backer rod) to prevent three-sided adhesion.

Application:

1. Insert the cartridge into a suitable silicone gun.
2. Apply the sealant evenly and without air bubbles into the joint.
3. Smooth the joint cleanly using a suitable smoothing agent (for natural stone: OTTO Natural Stone Smoothing Agent) and a jointing tool.
4. For matte and matte-sanded colors, smooth the joint only once if possible to preserve appearance and texture.

After application:

1. Remove fresh residues immediately, especially from natural stone surfaces.
2. Skin formation: approx. 10 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
3. Curing rate: approx. 2 mm per 24 hours at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity.

OTTOSEAL® S 80 has been specially developed for sensitive materials and is ideal for high-quality joints in both interior and exterior applications:

• Natural stone & marble: For joint sealing on marble as well as all types of natural stone such as granite, sandstone, quartzite, gneiss or porphyry – without edge staining.
• Sanitary areas: Expansion and connection joints on washbasins, showers, bathtubs and toilet installations, also in combination with natural stone.
• Floor and wall joints: Elastic expansion joints in floor and wall areas with ceramic tiles and natural stone.
• Exterior & façade: Weather-, UV- and aging-resistant – suitable for façade joints as well as natural stone and ceramic surfaces in outdoor areas.
• Mirror sealing: For external mirror sealing in combination with natural stone.
• Glass & metal: Sealing of painted or enamelled glass and movement-compensating bonding of natural stone to metal structures.
• Food-adjacent areas: Tested and approved for use in hygienically sensitive areas such as kitchens, counters or catering environments.

OTTOSEAL® S 80 combines maximum material compatibility with long-lasting elasticity – ideal for demanding natural stone applications.

Care instructions for OTTOSEAL® S 80

To keep natural stone and ceramic joints permanently attractive, elastic and fully functional, please observe the following care instructions:

• Clean gently: Use mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents without abrasive additives.
• Avoid aggressive cleaners: Acidic or strongly alkaline cleaners may damage the surface of the joint.
• Reduce moisture: Especially in sanitary areas, ensure regular ventilation to help prevent mold growth.
• No sharp tools: Brushes with hard bristles or sharp objects can damage the silicone joint.
• Remove cleaning residues: Always rinse thoroughly with clean water after cleaning.

Thanks to its fungicide-equipped formulation and excellent resistance to UV radiation, weathering and aging, OTTOSEAL® S 80 remains hygienic and visually appealing over the long term when properly maintained.
